import MDF and LDF backup from SQL2000 to SQL2005

hi,

i have six files ( 3 MDF and 3 LDF) from a backup of a MS SQL 2000 server.

I installed MS SQL 2005 and wanted to Restore these Dataset. but they cant be accessed. doesnt SQL 2005 support these files ?

How can i use these files to access them with SQL 2005 ?

Thx,

Hello -

The files you're talking about are the "raw" data files that SQL Server uses, not a backup. When you take a backup from within SQL Server, files are acutally packaged a little differently, into a .bak file. When you use the BACKUP DATABASE command in SQL Server, it will create these files for you, which inlcude all of the "raw" files. You can then use the RESTORE DATABASE command to restore them to another (or the same) SQL Server.

All is not lost, however. If you have the MDF and LDF files, you can "adopt" these files directly into a running SQL Server system. That is called "attaching" a database. You can read more about that here:

Import from MS Access to SQL 2005 problem

I can not import a MS Access database into a SQL Server 2005 database on the
SQL Server 2005 server where MS Access is not installed but I can import it
from a Citrix computer where MS Access is installed.
Is there a requirement that MS Access has to be installed on the computer
where you want to load the Access database from ?
I get the following error when I try from the Server where MS Acces is not
installed:
Could not retrieve table list.
Could not load file or assembly 'System.Enterprise.Services.Wrapper.dll' or
one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the path specified.........
Thanks.

I believe Access needs to be installed on the computer where the
import process executes.

import data from MySQL to SQL Server

Hi All
I'm trying to import data from mySQL database to SQL server 2005. I installed mySQL odbc driver (3.51) and configured system DSN. However when I start SQL server import/export wizard mysql is not an option in data source dropdown.
What do I miss?
Thanks,
Vlad.Hi,
I never worked with MySQL, but there is a general approach. If you were able to create DSN, try to create a DTS package on SQL Server. I do not use SQL Server2005, but 2000. There is Other Connections icon under Connections in DTS designer. Configure this connection for MySql. The rest is yours - just configure the destination for your MySQL data.
Regards|||Hi,
I agree with dbmjs that creating a DTS package will probably be an easy way of transfering the data. Just a couple of quick notes:
1) DTS in sql server 2000 works great for smaller < 1mil records. Anything bigger than that it seems to run into some issues. (You can always make a couple of smaller packets and import them)
2) The DTS equivelant in SQL Server 2005 is named SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and works great no matter the size or amount of records.

Hope this helps
Good luck,
Reghardt

Import Analysis Services 2005 cube into Siebel Analytics

Hi,

I'm trying to import a cube I've created with Analysis Services 2005 into Siebel Analytics Physical Layer.

I've installed XML For Analysis SDK on the SQL Server and created a virtual directory which contains the file msxisapi.dll.

When I try to import I get the following error message fro the server :"Error proccesing request".

I think the problem occurs because the xmla service doesn't "know" I want to import the cube from it.

I'm very new to the issue and we don't have knowledge in our company to solve the problem.

I'll very appreciate it if someone could help me.

Thanks in Advance,

Moving to the SQL Server Analysis Services forum.

import a dts package

Hi i was wodering how can i transfer a developed dts package from sqlserver
to an installed MSDE2000.
Hi Yaniv,
Easiest is probably to save it to a file, and run the file using dtsrun
(which does come with the MSDE).

a simple VBScript that imports the file.dts :
Const DTSSQLStgFlag_UseTrustedConnection = 256
dim ServerName,dtsFilePath,userPassword
Dim dtsp, dtsPkg
ServerName = "server"
dtsFilePath = "d:\path\File.dts"
userPassword = ""
Set dtsPkg = CreateObject("DTS.Package")
dtsp = dtsPkg.LoadFromStorageFile(dtsFilePath,userPasswor d)
dtsPkg.SaveToSQLServer ServerName, "","" ,DTSSQLStgFlag_UseTrustedConnection
|||Hi Greg,
I have installed latest MSDE 2000 Rel A.
I do not see and file named dtsrun.
What am I missing?
Thanks
